Heritage wonders: Tribute to women

Looking through the treasures of Jaeger‑LeCoultre’s Heritage Gallery, timepieces designed for women since the 19th century brim with creativity and preciousness. All eyes on some of our Maison’s most iconic feminine watches in this first Heritage chronicle.

The Grande Maison has always devoted considerable attention to ladies’ timepieces, in terms of both their aesthetics and their mechanism. In the 19th century, the Manufacture equipped pendant-watches, brooch-watches or wristwatches with their calibers and embellished them using the finest engravers, enamellers, and gem-setters. This tradition goes back to the first round calibers with extremely small diameters, such as the LeCoultre Calibre 7 HP, created by the Maison in 1880.

From 1903 onwards, the association between the Frenchman Edmond Jaeger and Jacques-David LeCoultre of Switzerland, became one of the most successful examples of the balance between style and technique. These two men quickly grasped the fact that the emergence of the wristwatch would revolutionize the shape of watches. From invisible to dazzling, from secret to open, Jaeger‑LeCoultre has enriched this tradition creating swiveling or pivoting watches, ring and pendant-watches ranging from the pure Art Deco style to the most expressive floral motifs. Every one of these timepieces have always been dominated by one requirement: to offer women a movement that is entirely designed and produced under the roof of the Manufacture and that perfectly fits the shape of its case.

Alll of these creations were made possible thanks to the inventive spirit that has always animated our watchmakers. Pushing boundaries and conventions, placing a crown on the back of a caliber for example, Jaeger‑LeCoultre channels the power of the imagination to achieve outstanding horological feats.

In 1925, the creation of the Duoplan allowed the Manufacture to go one step further as the fashion at that time was for very small watches which dimensions would not allow a precise movement to fit in. The Duoplan was revolutionary in that it was built on two levels, offering women a winning combination of elegance and fine watchmaking while gaining precision and accuracy. This caliber equipped some of the most precious watches designed at the Manufacture.

Yesterday in Porto Montenegro, Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, next to David Margason, Managing Director of Porto Montenegro, launched a strategic partnership that sees the Swiss luxury watch brand become Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the superyacht marina and the Porto Montenegro Yacht Club.

On the ruins of a former arsenal, Porto Montenegro Marina and Yacht Club was erected less than 10 years ago by visionary men including LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, Jacob Rothschild and Canadian businessman and philanthropist Peter Munk. Located in the deep-water Bay of Kotor, boasting spectacular natural beauty, Porto Montenegro has quickly turned into a sophisticated haven for sailors from all over the world. Now boasting a fully-integrated marina with more than 450 berths, Porto Montenegro also features 290 luxury waterfront residences, a five-star hotel and a Yacht Club as well as over 50 retail units and dozens more projects in the development pipeline.

Relying on its nautical roots, Hublot has made a significant number of smart moves all along the Mediterranean coastline in the past few years. In 2007, the Swiss watchmaker set up one of its first boutiques within the walls of the legendary Hôtel Byblos in Saint-Tropez. Ten years later in 2017, Hublot launched the Classic Fusion Ibiza and the Classic Fusion Mykonos, and celebrated the opening of four directly operated Boutiques, adopting a nautical theme, in Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Capri and Porto Cervo. This year, only a few weeks after its Monaco Boutique opened, Hublot celebrates its partnership with Porto Montenegro, the latest “it spot” for Mediterranean lovers.

To seal this truly unique partnership, Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe and 120 privileged guests gathered by Porto Montenegro Yacht Club infinity pool yesterday evening. In this magical setting, surrounded by the Adriatic’s blue waters, Hublot revealed the Classic Fusion Chronograph Porto Montenegro. To celebrate summer the new timepiece showcases the blue of the sky and the sea, its blue sunray dial is adorned with the Porto Montenegro logo at 3 o’clock as well as on the case-back. Powered by a self-winding movement, this limited edition comes with a blue rubber and calfskin strap. Made of titanium, its sleek case is an epitome of timeless elegance. Only 30 pieces are being released, now available at Excelsior, Hublot exclusive retailer in Porto Montenegro as well as all across Central Europe.
