Lai Heen, the signature Cantonese restaurant of The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou has earned its first Michelin star in the inaugural Michelin Guide Guangzhou 2018. It is one of only eight restaurants in Guangzhou to receive this coveted award.
“We are very privileged that Lai Heen has been awarded a star in this first edition of the Michelin Guide Guangzhou,” said Matthias Vogt, General Manager, The Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou. “It is a testament to our commitment to culinary excellence in a city known as the food capital of China. This is a well-deserved recognition for the Ladies and Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, from our culinary teams to our restaurant operations teams, who dedicate themselves to crafting memorable and exceptional dining experiences for our guests every day.”
Helmed by Chef Gordon Guo, the cuisine of Lai Heen accentuates the freshness of seasonal ingredients and showcases exquisite Cantonese delicacies through careful balancing of colors, aromas, textures and tastes. Chef Guo has over two decades of experience in Cantonese cuisine and is famed for his creativity, as well as his passion for personally selecting and bringing fresh natural ingredients to the table. The menu at Lai Heen is constantly evolving, with classic and contemporary favorites such as Poached Sunflower Chicken, Braised Shrimp With Okra in Homemade Sauce and Steamed Crab Custard.
Lai Heen welcomes guests into a luxurious, jasmine-scented world of sophisticated dining. The restaurant’s muted burgundy-and-silver color scheme evokes the ambiance of old Canton. On the tables, silver-tipped ebony chopsticks and delicate bone china hold the promise of an extraordinary culinary experience for guests.

Chocolate and Design at Four Seasons Hotel Milano
With the reopening of its seasonal Sunday Brunch, Four Seasons Hotel Milano will unveil the new décor of its Chocolate Room. This year, Pastry Chef Daniele Bonzi is paying tribute to Milan’s famous reputation for design, with the creation of an art exhibition.
No less than one ton (2,200 pounds) of the finest Valrhona chocolate was necessary to create this new decor featuring geometric shapes, pop-culture and tape art elements as well as three-dimensional installations. Among these, guests can enjoy an interactive sound wave wall filled with chocolate desserts and a reproduction of the famous Needle, Thread and Knot statue by celebrated artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
“Besides fashion, Milan has also positioned itself as an important cradle for contemporary art and design, and you can clearly feel these influences when seeing the numerous art exhibitions in town, or by simply walking around the city or visiting the annual Furniture Fair. This is what has inspired me to create this multi-sensorial art experience. Just as all the paints and materials used in art, chocolate is a fabulous matter to work with, providing endless ways of use, with various natural tones and textures,” explains Pastry Chef Bonzi.
Certainly one of the most loved Hotel’s highlights since its creation in 2007, this hand-decorated delicacy has successively taken the form of a Ratatouille-themed lounge, a chocolate factory and a tropical forest featuring jungle-inspired vegetation and exotic animals. The Chocolate Room can be visited during the traditional Sunday Brunch and booked for private events, chocolate tastings, breakfasts and afternoon breaks.
A must-go occasion for guests and locals alike, the Hotel’ Sunday Brunch provides a unique moment to indulge in traditional Italian dishes served buffet-style including typical recipes as Milanese-style risotto and cutlets, gourmet selections of cold cuts and cheeses, delicious salads and roasted meats. And with its children’s play area and babysitter service, it is also a perfect occasion to spend a relaxed meal with the entire family.
Located in a dramatically 15th century reborn convent, Four Seasons Hotel Milano offers the perfect destination to spend a family holiday. Thanks to its position in the city’s bustling Fashion District, the Hotel allows an easy access to Milan’s historical quarter of Brera and the iconic Duomo, while for those looking for a shopping escape in the world leading couture houses, the Hotel’s Spa is a serene after-shopping respite to be pampered in with exclusive signature treatments.
