Breitling, the Swiss prestige watch brand whose connection to automobiles dates back well over a century, made its debut as Official Time Partner at the 2018 edition of the Concours d’Elégance Suisse, which was held from June 22 to 24, 2018.
While Breitling’s presence at this year’s Concours d’Elégance Suisse signaled a new chapter in its association with fine motorcars, it also marked a continuation of the luxury watch brand’s connection to motoring that dates back to the early years of the twentieth century.
Breitling’s CEO Georges Kern points out that the brand’s partnership with the Concours d’Elégance Suisse is a natural extension of its automotive legacy: “Our involvement with automobiles and motorsport is truly a part of our DNA and can be traced back to some of the earliest days of our brand. We’re thrilled to be part of the Concours d’Elégance Suisse, an event whose focus and values align so perfectly with our own.”
Breitling and Motoring: A Proud Legacy
In 1905, Breitling’s founder Léon Breitling applied for a Swiss patent for the first chronograph specifically designed to measure the speeds of racing cars. Interestingly, in the same year, it was a Breitling timepiece that allowed the Swiss police to issue the country’s very first speeding tickets, so motorists who chose to race on the motorways instead of the tracks might not have been pleased by the brand’s flawless timekeeping performance. The link to racing drivers that started early in the twentieth century continued, and Formula 1 legends Graham Hill and Jim Clark sported Breitling’s iconic Navitimers in the 1960s. In the intervening years, Breitling distinguished itself with timepieces for aviators, scientists, sportsmen, and divers, but the Breitling sports chronographs were also a favorite for use on automobile dashboards.
Breitling: Official Time Partner of the Concours d’Elégance Suisse
The Concours d’Elégance Suisse gives owners of some of the world’s most outstanding classic and vintage cars a chance to display their immaculate showpieces, with some 70 beautifully preserved vehicles presented in four dedicated classes at the Château de Coppet near Lake Geneva this year. The theme of the 2018 edition, 1920-1939: From Modernity to Design, particularly resonates with Breitling because it was in that era that the brand forged the strong links to motoring and aviation that remain such a rich part of its legacy. It was also a period of groundbreaking design, and many of Breitling’s current products were inspired by those decades that so importantly bridged the gap between the past and the present.
At the Concours d’Elégance Suisse, Breitling took the opportunity to highlight its heritage. Celebrated watch collector Fred Mandelbaum explored the history of the brand in a moderated discussion with representatives of Breitling’s management board. The talk was complemented by a display of some of the vintage Breitling models that helped drive the brand’s success in its early years.
At its pop-up boutique on the lawn of the Château de Coppet, Breitling presented the striking new timepieces that have already found favor with the brand’s expanded customer base. Historic Breitling models from the 1920s and 1930s were also on display alongside the watches from the current collection. Breitling is proud of the legacy it has built over the past 134 years, and is delighted to be able to continue this tradition by sharing its extraordinary watches with men and women from all over the world.
At the Concours d’Elégance Suisse, Breitling also celebrated its ongoing partnership with Bentley Motors. Selected media representatives and influencers enjoyed a unique brand experience, which included an opportunity made possible by the Bentley Drivers Club – Swiss Region. They had the chance to drive some distinguished classic Bentleys – including a 1947 Le Mans 8 Open Tourer – through the scenic Swiss countryside between the Château de Coppet and Breitling’s Chronométrie in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
The events in connection with its partnership with the Concours d’Elégance Suisse gave Breitling the opportunity to reestablish its long-standing connections to motorists and the automotive industry and to reinforce the links between its past and what it likes to describe as its “legendary future.”
Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Capri: A tribute to Capri and its wonderful Faraglioni
Exactly one year after the opening of its exclusive Capri boutique in the central Via Vittorio Emanuele, Hublot the Swiss watchmaker is dedicating an exceptional watch to this splendid showcase: the new Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Capri.
A limited and numbered edition of 30 pieces for customers of the island. A look as summery as it is relaxed, inspired by Capri, its spectacular Faraglioni and its sea cave «Blue Grotto», considered as one of the most beautiful and magical places in the world, where water assumes a bright electric blue colour.
The Spirit of Big Bang Blue captures the essence of summer
While your holidays take you from the shores of Lake Geneva to the rocks of the Côte d’Azur or from the Emerald Coast to the creeks of Capri, make a stopover in one of our waterfront boutiques: Monaco – Cannes, St Tropez – Porto Cervo or Geneva and dive into the infinite blue of the Spirit of Big Bang Blue. The timepiece captures the azure of the Mediterranean Sea with blue microblasted and polished ceramic combined with a blue alligator strap stitched onto white rubber. The design is a summons to set sail and be carried away to the rhythm of the movement.
Hublot Becomes the Official Timekeeper of Porto Montenegro Marina and Yacht Club
Yesterday in Porto Montenegro, Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, next to David Margason, Managing Director of Porto Montenegro, launched a strategic partnership that sees the Swiss luxury watch brand become Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the superyacht marina and the Porto Montenegro Yacht Club.
On the ruins of a former arsenal, Porto Montenegro Marina and Yacht Club was erected less than 10 years ago by visionary men including LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, Jacob Rothschild and Canadian businessman and philanthropist Peter Munk. Located in the deep-water Bay of Kotor, boasting spectacular natural beauty, Porto Montenegro has quickly turned into a sophisticated haven for sailors from all over the world. Now boasting a fully-integrated marina with more than 450 berths, Porto Montenegro also features 290 luxury waterfront residences, a five-star hotel and a Yacht Club as well as over 50 retail units and dozens more projects in the development pipeline.
Relying on its nautical roots, Hublot has made a significant number of smart moves all along the Mediterranean coastline in the past few years. In 2007, the Swiss watchmaker set up one of its first boutiques within the walls of the legendary Hôtel Byblos in Saint-Tropez. Ten years later in 2017, Hublot launched the Classic Fusion Ibiza and the Classic Fusion Mykonos, and celebrated the opening of four directly operated Boutiques, adopting a nautical theme, in Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Capri and Porto Cervo. This year, only a few weeks after its Monaco Boutique opened, Hublot celebrates its partnership with Porto Montenegro, the latest “it spot” for Mediterranean lovers.
To seal this truly unique partnership, Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe and 120 privileged guests gathered by Porto Montenegro Yacht Club infinity pool yesterday evening. In this magical setting, surrounded by the Adriatic’s blue waters, Hublot revealed the Classic Fusion Chronograph Porto Montenegro. To celebrate summer the new timepiece showcases the blue of the sky and the sea, its blue sunray dial is adorned with the Porto Montenegro logo at 3 o’clock as well as on the case-back. Powered by a self-winding movement, this limited edition comes with a blue rubber and calfskin strap. Made of titanium, its sleek case is an epitome of timeless elegance. Only 30 pieces are being released, now available at Excelsior, Hublot exclusive retailer in Porto Montenegro as well as all across Central Europe.
