Netflix, the world’s leading Internet entertainment service, announced today that the universally acclaimed series Anne with an E returns for a second season on July 6th. The expanded ten episode season from Miranda de Pencier’s Northwood Entertainment launches exclusively on Netflix everywhere, excluding Canada (where it debuts this Sept. 23 on CBC). All episodes will be available all at once to members around the world, outside of Canada.
Inspired by the timeless Canadian novel ”Anne of Green Gables” by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the second season of Anne with an E continues to chart bold new territory, adding new characters and storylines while further exploring themes of identity, prejudice, feminism, bullying, gender parity and empowerment through the lens of its fierce, starry-eyed, irrepressible 14-year-old protagonist.
A coming-of-age story, reimagined by creator Moira Walley-Beckett, Anne with an E stars returning fan favorites Amybeth McNulty (Anne Shirley-Cuthbert), Geraldine James (Marilla Cuthbert), R.H. Thomson (Matthew Cuthbert), Corrine Koslo (Rachel Lynde), Dalila Bela (Diana Barry), Aymeric Jett Montaz (Jerry Baynard), Lucas Zumann (Gilbert Blythe) and Kyla Matthews (Ruby Gillis). This season introduces audiences to new characters including Dalmar Abuzeid (Sebastian Lacroix) and Cory Grüter-Andrew (Cole MacKenzie) conceived by Moira Walley-Beckett and an all-female writers’ room.
A CBC and Netflix original series, Anne with an E is produced by Northwood Entertainment and created by Moira Walley-Beckett. The executive producers are Miranda de Pencier, Moira Walley-Beckett, Debra Hayward, Alison Owen and Ken Girotti. John Calvert serves as producer.
Marco Pigossi Comes to Netflix
Netflix announced Brazilian actor Marco Pigossi has joined Netflix for a series of projects.
With a prolific career in both television and theater, the 29-year-old actor was launched into stardom in 2010 with his portrait of Cássio in the soap opera “Caras e Bocas”. Since then he has been bringing life to leading roles in various Brazilian hits and now ventures into a broader canvas: the actor will also star two upcoming series at Netflix, presenting his work to millions of people around the world in the 190 countries where the platform is available.
Marco Pigossi joins the main cast of Tidelands, a supernatural crime drama, and the first Australian Netflix original series. The project is also a first in Pigossi’s career, being his debut in acting in English.
Later in the year, back in Brazil, Pigossi lands the leading role in Netflix Brazilian Original live-action series Invisible Cities, created and directed by renowned Brazilian filmmaker Carlos Saldanha. The series, that will have its production started by the end of 2018, portrays an underground world inhabited by mythical creatures evolved from a deep lineage of Brazilian folklore.
“We are thrilled to have a talent like Marco Pigossi joining Netflix. Marco has had such an influence on Brazilian culture, and we couldn’t be more excited to be apart of his journey to reach and entertain a global audience.”, says Tesha Crawford, Netflix’s Director of International Originals Content.
“This is a great moment for me, embracing the opportunity as an actor to live the plurality and creative challenges that a partnership with Netflix presents. To have this cultural exchange and film with actors and crew from different nationalities is a huge learning, even more knowing that people all around the world will watch the result. And now also having the privilege of working in my own country with such an amazing creator as Carlos Saldanha. It is an amazing opportunity!” says Marco Pigossi.

“We are big fans of Javier and Adriana’s work, and couldn’t be more excited to see them both in a Netflix Original series.” said Erik Barmack, Vice President of International Originals at Netflix. “And the world that Verónica, Tomás and Jorge have created is unique, fresh, and likely to have global appeal. We’re ready to add Hache to our growing list of Spanish series intended for global audiences.”

How many episodes will there be? Seven. Season 1 writer David E. Kelley will be tackling each script, based on a story by best-selling author Liane Moriarty.
What’s happening behind the scenes? Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will return as executive producers for the series — Kidman through Blossom Films and Witherspoon through Hello Sunshine — along with Arnold, Kelley, and Season 1 director Jean-Marc Vallée.
